UC Honors 2019/2020 Year In Review
What specific experiences (honors or otherwise) in the past year have had the most impact on your academic and professional goals and trajectory? Articulate specific academic and/or professional goals for the next year.
One of the most significant experiences I have had the opportunity to engage in this past year is one which I am currently participating in. Through connections I was able to make through the University Honors Program I was able to get connected with several professors within the political science department, which is what I study, and was able to secure a job as a full time summer research assistant for the summer of 2020. Being able to work under the guidance of Dr. Thomas Moore in the political science department here at the University of Cincinnati has been a great opportunity. It has allowed me to learn a lot more about not only the subject matter of his research, but also improve my research and analytical skills a lot. This is something that as a second year I thought would not be possible, but I am very thankful to be able to engage in such a meaningful experience. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati I hope to be able to get accepted and enroll in a full-time graduate program to pursue a PHD in international relations. Being able to engage in such an intensive research experience at the end of my second year has greatly expanded my knowledge of true academic research and how it is done, this has better prepared me to be able to succeed upon entering applying and hopefully entering graduate school. Going into this this year I hope to not only be able to continue my research work with Dr. Moore if all goes well, but through my studies I hope to be able to continue to expand my knowledge of my major and the skills necessary to be able to succeed. Despite everything being thrown very out of order because of the virus impacting the world and the current societal unrest, I strive to be able to continue my work and my studies undisturbed to be able to set myself up to be in the best position going into my senior year and entering the phase of applying to different graduate schools across the country.

2020-2021
UC Honors Year in Review:
One of the honors experiences which I am highly looking forward to is participating in the UHP Discover program this Summer 2021 as a research assistant for Dr. Isaac Campos from the History department. While this is my second time being a research assistant under a professor while completing my undergraduate experience here at UC, I am highly looking forward in engaging in the research work of Dr. Campos and being able to establish a better relationship with him as a student researcher. His work on tracking and analyzing the early history of marijuana and its corresponding legislation during the early period of the 20th century is something that I find truly fascinating and often not spoken about enough in academic literature. As a rising fourth year here at the University of Cincinnati, I am slowly preparing myself for the graduate school admissions process so that I may continue to work towards a PHD in International Relations after my time at my undergraduate institution is done. Being able to work on a different research project from the previous summer is something that I am very grateful for as the different experiences and work skills that I have learned throughout my past two summers have been of immense value and will surely help me as I go forward to graduate school. Despite the heavy intensity of COVID restrictions over the past year and still even some now, I have been able grow in my academic experience, and I highly look forward completing my final two semesters at UC this coming academic year.
